Teaching Evaluation
Student feedback on teaching
It is essential that students should have every opportunity to comment upon any aspect of the teaching and learning process, and that the Department should be ready to respond accordingly. We are a small and close-knit department and we hope you will always feel free to raise any matter with one or other of us, on an informal basis. It is also important to emphasise, however, that various mechanisms are in place which are intended to help you to make your views known on a more formal basis.
Teaching Evaluation Questionnaires (TEQs) will be distributed by the lecturer to all students in a class, normally in the seventh week of the Michaelmas and Lent Terms. Please take the trouble to complete the questionnaires, in a frank and constructive spirit. The completed TEQs will be collected by a student at the end of the class, and returned to the Departmental Secretary; should you wish to complete the TEQ at your leisure, please return it within a day or two to the Secretary at the ASNC Office. All confidences will be respected. The completed questionnaires are reviewed by the lecturer, who completes a report which is in turn reviewed by the Head of the Department; any matters of concern will be discussed with the lecturer, or referred to the JAC (below). The purpose of this system is to help us identify problems and, by taking appropriate action, to improve the quality of teaching in the Department.
Many colleges have questionnaires of their own, which allow you to comment on the supervision you have received.
