Prof Paul Russell and PhD student Myriah Williams presented a lecture at the National Library of Wales on April 1st entitled ‘The Black Book of Carmarthen: Minding the Gaps’ to a sold out audience. The lecture sought to address some under-studied aspects of one of Wales’s most treasured manuscripts, Peniarth 1, informally known as the Black Book of Carmarthen. A highlight of the talk was the discussion of the recovery of some text and images that had been erased from the manuscript’s pages in the late sixteenth century.
