Visiting Students

This is a guide for students who intend to apply to become a Visiting Student to the Department and whose home University is not part of the Erasmus Exchange Programme.

The Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic admits a small number of applicants who wish to undertake a period of full-time research (usually no more than 3 terms) but who do not intend to become candidates for any Cambridge qualifications.

As a Visiting Student you will be entitled to:

The Department assumes that Visiting Students come to Cambridge to pursue their independent research and therefore does not provide or arrange academic supervision; however, it may be possible to arrange private supervision, for which payment is the Visiting Student's responsibility. Places will be awarded on a competitive basis and preference will be given to applicants whose work falls within the research expertise of the Academic Members of the Department.

A fee of £500 per term is payable termly in advance.

How to apply

An invitation to become a Visiting Student is given on the understanding that the Student Visitor will be entirely self-funded (in accordance with Immigration policy). An invitation to become a Visiting Student does not confer membership of any College. Visiting Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. It is the responsibility of the applicatant to ensure that compliance with UK immigration/visa requirements is met.

Incomplete applications will not be processed. Please apply well in advance of your visit to allow consideration of your application by the Department. You will be notifiedformally in writting of the outcome of your applicaiton.
