Professor Michael Lapidge awarded honorary degree from the University of Toronto

On 10 June of this year Michael Lapidge (Lecturer in the Department from 1974 onwards, Professor from 1991 to 1998) was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters (D. Litt.) from the University of Toronto, where he had first taken his PhD degree forty years earlier. He was presented to the Toronto convocation by Andy Orchard, Provost and Vice-Chancellor of Trinity College, Toronto, who was previously an undergraduate, graduate student, lecturer and finally reader in the Department of ASNC before departing for Toronto in 2001. The convocation was followed by a memorable party, hosted at the Lodge of Trinity College by Andy Orchard and attended by many Anglo-Saxonists from all parts of North America.
