Peter’s Pence and beyond: written and numismatic evidence on Anglo-Saxon offerings and payments to the papacy

Dr Rory Naismith and Dr Francesca Tinti (currently Ikerbasque Research Professor at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) and an honorary research associate of ASNC) have been awarded a Small Research Grant by the British Academy to study monetary relations between Anglo-Saxon England and the papacy. Making use of documentary, archaeological and scientific sources, they intend to explore this important example of international relations in the early Middle Ages. Their research in Cambridge and Rome will begin in 2012.
