Mapping Miracles: A Database of Motifs in Insular Hagiography

Conference to be held 2nd May 2014

Faculty of English, 9 West Road, Cambridge

Three PhD students in the Department, Robert Gallagher, Julianne Pigott and Sarah Waidler, along with their collaborator from the University of St Andrews, Jennifer Key, have received AHRC funding to host a conference on a project they are developing entitled ‘Mapping Miracles: A Database of Motifs in Insular Hagiography’. This conference will be held on the 2nd of May in the Faculty of English, 9 West Road, and will seek to begin conversations on this project, which aims to create a taxonomy for miracles in saints’ Lives from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in the early and central medieval periods and to develop a searchable online database of miracles from these regions. This conference is to focus on the study of miracles in saints’ Lives and will feature a roundtable discussion on the challenges associated with classifying miracles. More information and registration will be available soon. See http://mappingmiracles.wordpress.com/ for more details.
