New Assistant Professor of Old Norse-Icelandic

The Department is delighted to announce that Dr Dale Kedwards will be joining us as Assistant Professor of Old Norse-Icelandic on 1st September 2024. He is currently a research associate at the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in Reykjavík, having previously held postdoctoral fellowships in Odense and Zürich. Passionate about interdisciplinary research, after his 2020 book The Mappae Mundi of Medieval Iceland, tracing the relation of Iceland ‘world maps’ to the landscape of literary culture, Dr Kedwards has turned his attention to the stars for The Cosmic Dark Ages, his forthcoming study of how we use medieval imagery to conceptualise outer space and space exploration. We look forward to being part of his stellar journey!
